Engineering Manager Interview Experience - Redwood City, California

Process

I was contacted by the recruiter over LinkedIn.

  • Initial recruiter call to go over the position and gauge my interest.
  • Phone interview with the engineering director.
  • Two onsite interviews followed.
    • The first was 2 hours.
    • The second was 4 hours.

All interviewers were polite and respectful and asked meaningful and relevant questions.

There was a change in their org structure between my first and second onsite interview, so the hiring manager I had spoken with previously was no longer going to be the hiring manager. I wish this had been communicated to me before the interview, rather than catching me by surprise halfway through. Hiring is a two-way process, and I need to be comfortable with my future boss as well.

Overall, the experience was positive.
