Software Enineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

Interviewed January 2022.

Interviewer showed up a couple minutes late, on their phone due to computer issues, which is no big deal. However, this also meant that we didn't start the coding assessment until about 10-15 minutes into the interview.

Finished ~90% of the assignment before the interviewer stopped with only a couple minutes left of the time slot for a couple questions and curtly signed off at the end of the time slot.

They reached out saying they were not proceeding with next steps and offered feedback, but none was provided.

Some thoughts:

  • Felt weird to be recommended to use Python for the interview but paired with a Junior/L1 developer unfamiliar with any Python.
  • Felt weird to suggest practicing Leetcode, causing unneeded stress when the problem ended up not involving anything like that at all.
  • I understand that things happen sometimes, but it would be nice if you show up late to then end late.

Rather disappointing, as it seems an interesting company.

Questions

Build a small card game by implementing three functions that each build off each other. The wording of the function requirements is a bit poor and can be a bit confusing.
