Pros: Good benefits and facilities, on par with regular big companies. Generally nice people and smart engineers. Lots of technical knowledge in the organization.

Cons: Time off policies are ridiculous. In theory, it is unlimited, but in fact, it is very dependent on managers' discretion, thus creating a lot of tension for just getting time off. Among the six managers/directors in my group, only two of them would actually give people proper time off. The other four directors/managers would use any excuse to discourage people taking time off. Engineers who have family/friends overseas, BE AWARE! If you ever want to take a vacation overseas (> 2 weeks), they would make it really hard. Lots of low-level managers and some directors have ZERO social abilities or management skills. They have no regard for family/personal needs.

Pros: Some good people to work with.

Cons: Bad executive management that has taken down a once great company.

Pros: High stock price makes stock plan attractive

Cons: No job security. Everyone is subject to layoff and replacement. No work-life balance. The workload keeps increasing each time they get rid of some people and spread the work to remaining folks. No career path. The CEO keeps the organization very flat, which means there is a very short career ladder without many titles to climb. Moving up takes a really long time. You won't feel any confidence about a long-term career path, no matter how well you perform. There is no culture here, just cost-cutting. You can only focus on surviving the current year without getting laid off. This is designed by intention so everybody keeps their head down in the same position year over year. The performance ranking rule is as heartless as it can be. Every group is given an underperform quota to meet, regardless of how the group performs. It forces managers to pick some folks as underperformers, even though they do not deserve such a ranking. This system is designed to force people out year over year. It also makes the rest of the folks get less recognition for how well they actually perform. Come work for Broadcom if you just want valuable stocks and don't care how long you stay. If you want a serious career path, seek somewhere else.
