Pros

Gained hands-on experience with Kubernetes clusters, kubectl, AWS networking, PagerDuty, and Uptime.

Cons

Mentorship was ad-hoc. I had to take complete initiative, and I did not have manager support.

I did not get clear, well-defined tasks from my manager. There was very little personal interaction (camera-off culture).

No plan was in place for developing my skills. My manager had me start and then stop multiple projects, so I never saw anything to completion.

I felt unprepared for PagerDuty incidents in the rare event that I was called. There was no formal training or simulations.

Weak team culture. The team took a long time to respond to questions over Slack and were generally unavailable during my working hours.

The acquisition was handled poorly. They made the mistake of sending out offer letters before the deal had even closed, which created unnecessary stress.

Advice to Management

Management needs to hold teammates accountable for response times and have higher expectations for collaboration.

Entry-level hires need to have structured mentorship.
