I majored in material science and wanted to be a software engineer.
I got the interview chance in Wuhan, China, in 2019. I was a real noob. It was so hard for me to solve medium-level LeetCode problems, and the interviewer asked me many basic computer science concepts. I failed.

Chinese speaking culture and long hours

Pros: Flat hierarchy, decent compensation, and great benefits (insurance coverage, 18 days of leave to start out, and a goodie bag for every festive occasion).
Cons: A large number of their staff is based in China, and most of them are more comfortable speaking in Mandarin. Even documentation is in Chinese. Expect communication issues if you are on a global team but are not a Mandarin speaker.
Working hours can be long. From what I hear, salary adjustments are minimal, so what you get now might be what you get for the next few years.
