Data Engineer Interview Experience - Bridgewater, New Jersey

Process

I was set up to be interviewed by a data engineering manager, or so I assumed her role was, in the Insights and Data department at Capgemini.

It was supposed to be a video interview via Teams, but my interviewer called by phone, so I was talking to a blank screen.

She did not introduce herself. She asked extremely vague questions that were difficult to answer. I distinctly remember these being asked:

  • "When was a time you used Python?"
  • "What do you know about Big Data?"
  • "When was a time you had to convert data types?"

She prefaced a question with, "I know you don't know a lot about SQL."

She interrupted me while I was answering a question to ask how to spell something that would have been on my resume, had she bothered to even look at it.

She ended the interview by saying, "I have to go. I have another interview."

All in all, it was a really uncomfortable and humiliating process. She seemed both unprepared and completely disinterested in me as a candidate from the get-go.

This was a big disappointment, as I was extremely excited for the opportunity.
