Sometimes it takes a while to receive a project. This is due to nobody's fault; sometimes clients are difficult when hiring starters.
Communication can always be better. New hires often feel as if they're floating in the void when they anxiously wait for a project. Feel free to reassure them often enough; it boosts confidence and inspires motivation simply because they feel well taken care of and lucky (aka not forgotten). Other than this, keep doing what you do!
