Big/Fast Data Engineer Interview Experience - Chicago, Illinois

September 1, 2016
Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

I applied through an employee referral.

The process took 5 weeks.

I interviewed at Allstate (Chicago, IL) in September 2016. The process was good.

I had:

  • 1 phone interview on Java and Hadoop MapReduce
  • 1 on-site interview (4 hours long) which included 2 behavioral, 1 case, and 1 Big Data technical.

The environment is friendly. Interviews went well, except for the case interview. I was called by a recruiter after a week or so, who said they were moving forward without me.

Questions

  • Questions related to the Map and Reduce phases.

  • How would you choose HDFS file formats when storing XML data?

  • How would you deal with a conflict in approach with a team member, and how would you escalate issues?

Was this helpful?
