Process

I applied online and received a call several days later. Capital One would like to fly me out to their Richmond, VA location for a series of all-day interviews.

I set a date, and Capital One arranged for a travel agency to handle my flight. They also secured a room for me at the Hilton hotel and arranged for a driver to transport me from the airport to the hotel and then to their offices. Everything was paid for by Capital One.

Several other candidates were present. Three Capital One employees took us to lunch in one of the dining areas. This was an opportunity to chat with employees not involved in the hiring process, allowing us to ask more candid questions without concern for repercussions.

After lunch, these employees gave us a brief tour of the campus. At 1 PM, we were returned to the interviewing location.

We then had three 45-minute interviews. The order varied, but they consisted of:

  • A behavioral interview
  • A case interview
  • A job fit technical interview

I had expected the job fit interview to be the easiest, but it was the most difficult. The case interview was fairly straightforward. Even though I made several calculation errors the first time (inputting the wrong numbers into my calculator), the interviewer was helpful in guiding me back to the correct approach. I explained my thought process throughout, which is what they are primarily looking for.

The final interview was a behavioral interview, which is standard. It lasted 45 minutes, so be prepared to speak for approximately 15 minutes on each of the three behavioral questions.

After all three interviews, there was a 15-minute wait to determine if a fourth interview was needed. We were told this was neither good nor bad, simply that additional information was required.

No one in our group of candidates was asked for a fourth interview, so we were all free to leave. A driver had been arranged to take us back to the airport, and I returned home that evening.
