Process

The process began with a 15-minute call with a senior technical recruiter who asked a few questions regarding my resume. Next, they sent me a coding challenge to complete on HackerRank. It wasn't particularly difficult; I'd say it was equivalent to a medium problem on LeetCode.

Following that, I had a 6-hour interview over Zoom (due to COVID), with a 1-hour break. The interview went well. It started with a case study, which was probably the most important section. Next was a behavioral interview with a tech lead. After that, I had two more technical interviews with team leads. They asked technical questions regarding the projects I worked on.

After the interviews, I felt I could have done better on the case study section, as it wasn't something I was accustomed to, but I ultimately gave it my best shot. I would advise reading up on the company and understanding its mission, why they might make certain decisions like purchases, and the pros and cons associated with them.

Since it was for an iOS role, I was only given one case study, but you might have more depending on the role. In terms of the rest of the interview, I felt I did very well. I answered questions confidently and even surprised the interviewers with some of my answers.

Weeks later, my recruiter called me, saying I did very well and had aced the case study, which surprised me. However, Capital One was currently trying to match me to a team, and the recruiter mentioned they would keep me updated on my status.

After waiting a couple of weeks, I received another call. The recruiter mentioned they were still trying to find a team. They then told me I would be in the "loop" and considered for the role if any opportunities arose. However, they were closing the application out.

Wow, this seemed like a waste of time. Ultimately, I wish there was better communication between HR and teams regarding the exact qualifications they are looking for.

Past the interview, I impressed the team leads, but received no offer. I guess I can't let it hold me back; that's life. I've got to keep moving forward. If you find yourself in this same predicament, keep pushing forward. Know your worth and find what's best for you. Capital One seems like a great company with great people I spoke with, but it just didn't work out.
