I applied for the position through the Capital One careers site. About a week later, I received a response from the recruiter and had a quick 15-minute conversation regarding the position.
Three days later, I spoke with the Hiring Manager for 30 minutes. We discussed the current position at Capital One, what they are looking for, their process, and had a brief chat about my resume.
I was asked to fly down to Richmond, VA, the following Friday for a "power day" (in-person interview). All expenses were paid.
The recruiter was in constant contact, providing all travel information and the interview schedule (four 45-minute in-person interviews), along with a brief idea of what the behavioral interview would be like.
On the power day, I was scheduled for the morning slot, with two job fit interviews and two behavioral interviews with senior staff in the organization.
The first job fit interview was with the Hiring Manager and was non-technical. It focused mostly on past experiences and how I would fit into the position.
The second interview was a behavioral interview, mostly asking, "Given this situation, what was the task, action, and results?" (STAR).
This was followed by a 15-minute break. Then, the third interview was a job fit interview with the Solutions Architect. This was an engaging one, based on my resume and the current job duties. There were some technical questions, such as, "Tell me about what you did on these items on your resume." As a follow-up question, I asked about the system architecture, and the Solutions Architect took the time to provide all the information.
The final interview was a behavioral interview with the Senior Dev Manager. It followed a similar pattern to the earlier behavioral interview, and that concluded the day. The limo was waiting to take me back to the airport.
The Hiring Manager was very positive about my resume and mentioned that another interview was scheduled for the later afternoon. He said I should hear from the recruiter soon regarding the interview's success.
The following Monday, I received feedback that the interview was a success, and I was offered the position.
Overall, it was a great experience, especially since I hadn't attended any interviews in the last 10+ years. Being positive and confident about past experience and what you can offer is definitely a great advantage. Overall, it was a positive experience for me.
