Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

I was contacted by a recruiter.

I had a virtual code screening that had no human involvement. It was the typical four coding questions, where the first two were easy and the last two were LeetCode medium/hard.

The Powerday consisted of:

  • A coding question that was more like writing business/production code and less like a LeetCode question. The initial scenario was simple, and I had to expand my solution as requirements were added.
  • A system design question that was banking-related.
  • A behavioral interview with typical STAR questions and answers.
  • A problem-solving section that involved deciphering data based on a given ruleset and providing a result. This would likely be akin to understanding what happened in a complex workflow by looking at tables/data points within the banking system.

I received a verbal offer but was then ghosted. This exact scenario happened to a friend of mine, so this is likely not a one-off.

Beware of making any plans based on a verbal offer. Wait until you receive a written offer and sign it.

Questions

Code out a simple banking system.
