The process lasted two days.
First, there was a telephonic round, followed by a problem-solving round at the office, and then a technical face-to-face interview. All three rounds were pretty good and of above-average difficulty.
However, everything was ruined by the managerial round, which was complete chaos. The interviewer seemed to be learning managerial skills, asking questions that were clearly memorized and asking me to write and explain code that he didn't understand at all.
Then came the actual issue. He started humiliating me by saying that they hire only from top IITs and value them highly. For non-IITians, they keep track of them, and the moment they see them underperforming compared to IITians, they are let go. They don't have any place for underperforming employees. He also stated that they do R&D-level work, which requires more analysis, done by an analysis team, not by developers.
From the previous interviewer, I learned that they don't work on any banking projects (that's all done by the US folks). The Indian team works on technical support for the US team, not in terms of product development, but in terms of tool enhancement and test cases.
The interviewers (except for the arrogant manager) were curious about my company and my work, and were interested in joining because I work for one of the top brands in the industry.
All this behavior from the employees reveals the work conditions at Capital One.
So, a word of advice to the MANAGER: please don't be hypocritical in front of others. I came from a company where they hired from MIT and Harvard for their India office, but that doesn't matter to me or the company as long as I have the knowledge and provide good service. So, keep your IIT culture to yourself; nobody cares about it. Everyone knows your company has no significant work in its Indian office, and it's publicly discussed in all forums.
