Cons

Recruiters try to hire you at a level where, once you join, you'll realize that people with lesser skills than you are at higher levels simply by virtue of being in the same place for a long time.

Despite their shift from being hands-off vendors to being hands-on engineers, senior managers and directors are all non-technical folks. This is a challenge in terms of growing as an engineer.

Pay hikes each year are measly. Promotions are not evaluated by an independent group; the people managers get together and decide. A lot of value is given to handling "visible" work and "coordination" rather than "complex" work.

Advice to Management

If you want to bring in and retain good engineers, then have real engineers manage and mentor them.
