Stack ranked, with layoffs based on your rank. This is an awful model because it discourages people of the same level from helping each other, since the only way to be rated highly is for everyone else to be worse than you.
Being a good developer doesn't make you a good manager.
I had a series of awful managers. Some asked very inappropriate questions, others communicated frequently in a hostile and accusational tone, while still others neglected you entirely, which makes your career suffer in its own ways.
