Process

The initial screening with the recruiter was pleasant enough. The only issue I had was that I had a hard time hearing them on the phone, possibly because they may have been in a public workspace.

The role was for someone who could work an even split between backend and frontend systems. I let the recruiter know that I am more frontend-leaning in my experience. I think they felt it was still good enough to move me forward in the process or just have more candidate options available to the hiring manager.

After the recruiter call, they set up an interview with the hiring manager and someone who was shadowing along. We exchanged pleasantries and dove into behavioral-type questions, along with questions related to my resume. The interview felt more like an interrogation rather than a conversation. They did not choose to move forward, and I appreciated the relatively quick communication from the recruiter after the interview. It did not seem like a good fit to me either, as I did not quite connect with the interviewers and felt like the role was a mismatch.
