Devops Engineer Interview Experience - London, United Kingdom

Process

Interview Process:

  • Recruiter chat (30 minutes)
  • Tech chat (1 hour) - Numerous general web, hosting, and AWS-related questions were asked.
  • Tech exercise (multiple hours) - Design and implement AWS infrastructure.
  • Review of the exercise (n/a)

After completing all exercise requirements, including all bonus points, the feedback was negative, citing "cosmetic" reasons such as the structure of the Terraform code, comments, and a few typos.

Even though the feedback regarding the solution and its implementation was positive, the fourth phase of the process did not occur. There was no discussion about the proposed solution to better understand certain design or implementation decisions.

The conclusion I've drawn is that the team prioritizes style (e.g., how files are named or structured, comments) over substance (e.g., solution design, scalability, security).
