I met one of the engineers at school. After a small conversation, he set me up for an interview.
I received a coding test, followed by a phone screen with a senior software engineer. They asked me a lot of core Java questions, including inheritance and try-catch, as well as one data structure question (which was pretty easy and not worth mentioning).
Next, I received confirmation for an on-site interview the day before. Upon arrival, I was told the first interview would be conducted by a different person, in place of the originally scheduled interviewer. This person also had a different set of questions, which I was informed would be a whiteboard coding session.
I was a little off-guard and nervous by this point. I tried to relax by talking about my background, but the interviewer was keen on getting to the code. He had a Java program printed on paper (who reads code from paper?) and asked me to find issues with it and/or suggest improvements. It was very weird to read unindented code and correct it simultaneously.
I did not do great, which was partially my fault and partially due to the setup. I don't think it was a good idea.
The next round was with a Product Manager, who asked me system design questions. I answered all of his concerns.
Next was a video interview with another engineer in Florida. He asked a mix of background and technical questions. He was clearly asking high-level questions that a senior engineer would have been able to answer. I still did okay.
Finally, I had an interview with the VP of Software Engineering, who joined after 10 minutes. It was a nice conversation, and he asked basic Java and file system questions.
When will a finally block never be called?
