Pros
  • Learned how to stick up for myself and what not to put up with.
  • Learned what to look for when going into a company, i.e., what to ask in interviews that will suss out whether a company is good to work at or not.
Cons

Being a female in software engineering at this company has been very difficult. I've experienced tons of sexism that trickles down from up top.

There's a lack of diversity & inclusion in the company. Chewy refused to make a post supporting Black Lives, even though tons of employees specifically asked them to do so.

There's a horrible sense of direction from management. The direction changes from day to day.

There's no way to complete the tasks you are assigned in the regular 40 hours. You're guaranteed to work nights & weekends at Chewy.

Advice to Management

Focus on diversity and inclusion from top to bottom.

Pick a clear road map as to what is important and stick to it. Engineers cannot possibly get things done in time if the direction changes daily.
