Pros

They're working on and beyond the edge of established knowledge, giving rise to some interesting problems.

The people are great to work and chat with. Different backgrounds, smart.

Active in the open source community, giving back.

Cons

The recruitment process is long and arduous. There are a lot of interesting interviews, but you have to keep on the ball to keep it rolling. Otherwise, it will stall, and then you're stuck waiting. The HR process in general is clearly in its infantile stage, but it's clear they are actively working on improving.

Advice to Management

Keep improving the recruitment process. Right now, you risk losing people simply due to attrition or plain boredom.

Be open about timelines and processes. Discuss them before you start, so the candidate has a rough idea what to expect, who they're going to talk with, and how to plan.
