Phone call from recruiter on a weekend (Saturday).
Hackerrank test next week.
Four interviews scheduled approximately two weeks later:
Two of these interviews were scheduled late at night in Indian time, despite my availability during the day. I am concerned that the hiring manager, who had minimal data engineering experience and was eating breakfast throughout our conversation, made the final decision. This level of unprofessionalism from Coinbase is particularly striking, given their meticulous scrutiny of minor details, such as repeating a functional line of code as "unclean coding" during interviews.
Edit:
I received a feedback call from the recruiter today, several days later. The reason for rejection was as I suspected: the hiring manager declined without providing further feedback or justification. It is clear that the company does not value the data engineering role or function. As it is a new initiative at Coinbase, it is likely a dead-end job for Data Engineers, offering no prospects for growth or appreciation from management who lack the necessary knowledge. It would be best to avoid this opportunity.
