Pros

The average workload is not high at all, with only a few busy weeks in a year.

You may find good managers and interesting projects if you are lucky.

Cons
  • Significantly below industry average compensation.
  • 20% of engineers do 80% of the work, sometimes worse.
  • High-performing engineers are not rewarded with better compensation.
  • Career growth is non-existent in the technical track after Principal Engineer.
  • A lot of people do artificial busy work to demonstrate value.
  • Management incentives seem to favor hiring many junior engineers instead of rewarding and retaining senior engineers.
Advice to Management

Focus on rewarding and retaining high-performing engineers instead of just increasing head count.
