I felt compelled to leave a review for the interview process at Coupang because my experience differed so much from other reviews. As I prepared for both my phone screen and in-person interviews, I referenced the reviews on here to help me prepare.
The first round of the interview was a pretty typical phone screen, which included a live online coding challenge. The question was challenging but not overly difficult, and required basic knowledge of algorithms and data structures. The interviewer was very friendly and was clearly passionate about the work he was doing at Coupang.
About a week later, the recruiter followed up to schedule an on-site interview at their office in Seattle. The structure of the interview was five one-hour meetings. Four of the five meetings were with team members for the position I was interviewing, and one was with someone from another team. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with all five people – everyone was very friendly, and their enthusiasm for Coupang really showed. Many other reviews on here suggested the interviewers were rude and critical, but this couldn't be further from the experience I had.
I appreciated that the nature of the interview questions was not particular to specific technologies or advanced concepts. Rather, it was clear their intention was simply to gauge your ability as a problem solver.
Interview questions revolved around the fundamentals of algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
