Process

30 min Initial Call from Recruiter

A month later, received a call to set up an interview with the hiring manager (direct manager).

Two weeks later, received a call to interview with two sets of team members.

A week later, received a call to interview with another two sets of team members.

Then, received a call asking to interview with the hiring manager again and another team member.

The interview process was absolutely slow. However, I wasn't interested in the position after interviewing with the hiring manager. It was apparent that he was racist, and why would anyone put themselves in that position?

He basically told me that although I've been doing this job for several years, he had reservations. He didn't bother to tell me what those reservations were, but why would anyone want to work for you when you have reservations?

Maybe the reservation was the color of my skin. Hmmmm....

The fact he didn't expect me to presently be an architect appeared to surprise him. I assume that he wasn't used to people of color to be in senior-level roles.

They added an additional interview when I was told that there would only be an "X" number of interviews, which also irritated me. This is typically done to people of color, so I wasn't necessarily shocked.

After that, they told me they wanted to go with another candidate. I was good because if they were to make an offer, I would've declined it anyway.

Based on the interview process, I decided that this was definitely not a place that I wanted to work at and make a career out of, and it definitely appeared that I wouldn't be working with people that looked like me.

Folks, you should know that you are interviewing them, and you should be watching how they conduct the interview process as much as they are interviewing you.
