Very strong execs. Though it’s still got a startup feel, the execs (many are still co-founders, which is amazing) already act like they are running a public company with the vision and discipline it needs to succeed long-term. Ali is just brilliant.
Culture is great, as they take their cultural principles seriously, especially transparency and customer-first. I like that better than other start-ups I’ve worked at.
People are friendly and helpful.
Product positioning is great for this market and the needs from large enterprises.
Product complexity (long-standing perception is still managed Spark with notebooks, which is no longer the focus). The company is laser-focused on making the product simpler, so that will finally change that perception and make the product more appealing and accessible to business people.
No 401k match (though other benefits are above industry standards, like fitness perks and RSUs).
Keep focused on simplifying the product and innovate around Gen AI.
Applied online via careers site. Recruiter (usually via email or call). Hiring Manager (via Google Meet). Some tech rounds by other senior architects (not sure how many; I did not reach that stage as I was rejected in the hiring manager round).
Very hard interviews. I am a seasoned big data lead who drives multiple teams, and I still found the level of questions in the interviews pretty tough. I thought they would ask questions around Spark features, joins, optimization, etc. However, in
Extremely unprofessional interviewer who worked on his own stuff the entire interview and deliberately didn't reveal the second part of the question. Attitude is bad and impatient. If you don't want to interview, just don't accept the interview. I'd
