Datadog Work Experiences

Discrimination and Retaliation

Software Engineer II • Former Employee

New York, New York, United States

Pros: Decent benefits, working around some smart people.

Cons: Racism and discrimination were what I experienced at Datadog. HR will do everything in their power to protect their managers who are guilty of this. They will blame everything on you and gaslight. I was retaliated against for approaching my manager about some inappropriate and discriminatory comments he made in front of the entire team, and HR did absolutely nothing but defend him, even after he retaliated.

Great people, strong ownership, growing pains

Engineering Manager • Current Employee

Pros: People are helpful, friendly, and smart. My area of the company has good work/life balance (though this depends on the team). The company has a very strong brand and is a recognized leader in the space. You are allowed and expected to have strong ownership of your product area. Great autonomy - you can decide how to build your product.

Cons: Most teams have on-call rotations, and some teams have a much bigger burden than others. Lots of things are in flux, as the company has been growing quickly. Many responsibilities are pushed down to teams that really should be handled by common/infrastructure teams. Development can be slow because development infrastructure is lacking. Stock compensation depends on the market, and in a downswing (like now), that can be brutal.
