Software Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

Initial call with the recruiter was pleasant.

Next, I moved on to a technical video screen. Due to some internet connectivity issues on their end, we transitioned to a phone call.

The interview began with a discussion of my background, followed by the interviewer's background. There were two relatively straightforward algorithm questions. I did not correctly answer one part of the questions, and the interviewer exhibited a somewhat negative attitude when I was incorrect.

Despite this, I passed the screen and was given a take-home assignment.

The assignment appeared straightforward, but I had numerous other interviews ongoing simultaneously, and preparing for those is already a full-time commitment. Dedicating 8-10 hours to this assignment felt like a waste of time and was an excessive demand on a candidate.

It's worth noting that a simple Google search revealed other individuals who had already posted the project on their GitHub accounts.

The onsite interview would have included more algorithm questions, system design, and a behavioral portion. Overall, it would have been a lengthy process, so I decided not to proceed with the take-home project.

Hopefully, they will revise the process for future candidates!

Questions
