Founder-led with a long-term vision – Leadership prioritizes sustainable growth over short-term gains.
Industry-leading products – We dogfood everything internally, ensuring high quality and first-hand user experience.
Talented and collaborative colleagues – You’ll work with smart, driven people who are eager to solve complex problems together.
Limited opportunities for remote employees – Remote employees have fewer career growth and internal mobility options compared to in-office counterparts. Strict location requirements severely limit my ability to pursue new roles within Datadog, as very few teams are open to remote hires anymore.
Lack of career growth opportunities – My responsibilities and impact have grown significantly, but this has not been reflected in my compensation. For example, despite leading a large team of engineers, my pay remains the same as an individual contributor. There is a disconnect between increased scope and recognition.
Lack of transparency – Leadership often makes decisions in isolation and communicates them only after the fact. Instead of fostering strong, autonomous teams capable of making informed decisions, there is a tendency to micromanage. Leadership should focus on enabling teams with the context and trust they need to drive decisions effectively. (This may be specific to my department, rather than the company as a whole.)
The overall interview process is pretty mature and good overall. The recruiter who reached out to me was mixing formal and informal approaches very well (shout out to Babatunde!). They professionally handled the initial call and the aftermath call wh
Straightforward tech process with DSA and system design questions. Datadog likes to ask questions that have some link to their products. Brush up on logs indexing, for example. System design questions are more general.
The whole process was well done and structured. I didn't make it to the end as I was competing with someone who was a better fit. They asked me to re-apply in the future.
