The process begins with a screening interview, followed by a technical home task. You have three hours to submit your solution for the home task.

In my case, I had to implement some API endpoints and database queries using Sequelize. During the first interview, I mentioned that I hadn't used SQL for the past two years. Consequently, I struggled a bit with inner joins (using the library; I know how to perform inner joins with plain SQL – that's something you never forget).

Anyway, the solution worked, and I added an extra feature: Swagger documentation. The feedback I received was that I didn't account for concurrency (concurrency where? It was so ambiguous), and my inner joins were unnecessarily complex.

My final impression is that they were seeking an expert in Sequelize, not a general developer. Alternatively, perhaps they have never had to deliver something in three hours using an unfamiliar ORM library – I have.

The home task is provided in a repository prepared with plain JavaScript and Express, featuring poor code style. It might be part of the challenge to improve it.

Modern JavaScript backends absolutely need to be written in TypeScript! Obviously, a candidate can change it themselves, but it would be a waste of time.

It might be a good place to work once you're hired. However, it seems that luck, rather than talent, is required in the hiring process.
