I received a call from DELL EMC's HR for a face-to-face interview. During this call, I was not asked about my current salary or expectations. The interview was scheduled for the next day, and I went to their office.
I had two technical interviews and one managerial round. All rounds were of easy-medium difficulty, and the interviews lasted approximately two hours. After I returned home, within an hour, I received a call from HR informing me that I had cleared the interviews and secured the job.
I was asked to submit a list of documents, including my personal information and salary slips for the last three months. I also had to state my expected salary on one of the forms.
After submitting the documents, HR called to inform me that my current salary was beyond their budget and they could not offer me what I expected. The HR mentioned he would get back to me within a week. I waited, but received no further communication. Finally, after I followed up, HR stated they could not extend an offer and had decided to offer the position to another candidate with a significantly lower package than what I was already earning.
This was highly unprofessional. If they had a certain upper limit for CTC, they should have clarified it before the interview. I wasted a working day traveling to their office and attending the interview.
