Pros

Overall a great place to work. Great place to develop as an engineer. People are great for the most part.

Benefits are good. 401k matching is good.

Have a technical ladder for high performers. Option to work from home.

Cons
  • It's big and sometimes slow. Decisions don't happen quickly. Dell is often unwilling to do something new or unique in the market; that is, unwilling to take risks. Rince and repeat of 1U, 2U servers and similar mainstream products. But they are really good at those.

  • Dell over-hired after COVID, which resulted in recent (early 2023) layoffs.

  • There are lots of people in the enterprise engineering group that have been there a long time, and also many college new-hire engineers that have joined in the last few years. So it might be difficult for younger engineers to move up. But there's plenty of work to go around—probably too much.

  • Café is expensive, options limited, and quality of food is poor.

Advice to Management
  • Take more risks in the products.
  • Don't over-hire and then layoff.
  • Bring back Employee Stock Purchase plan.
  • Don't layoff in Enterprise when the Client is performing poorly.
