Mature storage business. Transparent and straightforward patent submission process. EMC is really serious about generating new patents. If you are an innovator, it is easy and rewarding to submit. They do exactly as they say they would, which is often not the case for other companies. Other companies have no budget or a transparent process for this.
Large code base; you will need an experienced friend to help you come up to speed. Lots of interests and alliances; it takes some political skill to navigate the different interest groups.
