Dell is fundamentally not a software company. This is reflected in how it handles software projects: non-technical business representatives call the shots, and Product Management has no power. This translates to nonsensical, shifting requirements and crazy workloads for the entire team. Eventually, the good engineering talent leaves.
On my project, there’s no real concern for data integrity, quality control, documentation, or development processes in general. It’s all a dance to make it look like work is progressing quickly while the tech debt mountain grows larger.
Dell also wants to offshore 70% of their engineering staff overseas, which will only add more chaos.
