Pros

There are great managers that will do their work very well. Managers empower and motivate you. Probably the best people from the IT market are there. It has a great team work culture. You may interact with anyone from any team for career advice and to build a network. There is awesome servant leadership from the managers. There is a possibility to be mentored by senior employees.

Cons
  • Very poor HR.
  • You can only get a promotion after 2 years in great form.
  • You are compared to all other employees in the same cost center as you, which should be around 400 people. You may be compared to someone in a high-visibility project, making it impossible to get a decent review.
  • You can't apply best practices. They hire the best people and drop them in the middle of common developers.
  • It's hard for the best people to influence weaker ones if they have been at Dell longer than you.
  • Very, very process-oriented, in a braindead way.
  • HR makes silly mistakes, such as hiring an ITIL process analyst for a project manager position, and no one sees an issue with this.
Advice to Management
  • Keep empowering your direct reports.
  • You will lose your best talent if HR keeps creating silly rules.
