Please check the cons section. I was working for the BIOS team in Bangalore.

Cons

HR:

  1. Compensation: Requesting to offer experienced employees (3-7 years) on par with freshers from IIT/NIT. Freshers will not cope up like experienced employees, and in turn, experienced people need to guide.
  2. In offer letters and appraisal letters, mention complete CTC. Currently, there are no retirals mentioned.
  3. Request to mention hike duration and month. Also, there is no hike during probation. Hikes are in August for the previous year, which is very late.

Leadership and Management:

  1. Trainings are gathered when the team is newly started, but only 2 or 3 trainings are available as of now. This will make the engineer learn from his own, taking time for fixing issues and project delivery.
  2. Improper planning and quick estimations of tasks, but not actual, ask engineers to spend personal time studying for the project. Also, listens to a few team members (who are not SMEs for issues faced) and decides on estimations.
  3. Even after updating the status to the leader, scrum leader, and management via email, management still comes to the place and asks for status. This leads to micromanagement and makes the employee feel uncomfortable.
  4. Suspects employees will leave and makes them stressed, keeps assigning tasks, and asks for status.
  5. Expects engineers not to take too many leaves.
  6. A few documents are created without any audience, which is not helpful.
  7. Management/Leadership feels unhappy if something is committed and not done, even though realistic reasons exist.
  8. The company follows many strategies to improve the business and company. But there is no strategy (yearly) to improve employee satisfaction like WFH, food/transport allowances, company stocks, etc. Please help to think from the employee's perspective and help to improve them.
  9. No onsite trainings or work, even if the project needs them. Asks engineers to coordinate and work with the ADC/TDC team, which takes more time rather than being onsite.
  10. Request to improve UEFI skills in order to provide guidance properly.
  11. No SMEs for BIOS skills, and engineers have to struggle to find and fix the issues. But the fact is, it is not possible all the time.
  12. Requesting the team to provide and attend any CSR functions in Dell.
  13. Always thinks each task to be a priority, even if it is not that much priority.
  14. Delays in approving awards.
  15. Compares the BIOS team's caliber with OS application teams, which is not correct. Sometimes, it takes 3 months to complete one issue, as it is dealt with so many hardware components and drivers. Also requesting to compare with other sustenance teams for hikes/appraisals.
  16. Strategic plan to not give a hike in the first year after joining. I was in the 6th month of probation during October.
  17. Management does not think about health during COVID and asks engineers to take hardware for projects/issues. This may cause damage to the employee and their family.
  18. Even if an engineer works overtime, the salary/hike is less.
  19. No promotions for team members in the past 2 years.
  20. No cab/meals facility. No cab for late nights.
  21. No additional compensation for additional hours worked, and awards are always less than 1000-5000 rupees. Please help to improve on this.
  22. I sometimes feel like the team offloads their work with end-to-end ownership to others, which is not correct.
  23. Tells to think of innovative ideas, and the leader files patents independently. This is not good for being a team player.
  24. Complete Agile cannot be applied for BIOS projects (Scrum). Please help to simplify the process.
  25. There are some pros and cons in patent mining. Please help to resolve the cons, like submitting multiple solutions to the same problems reported by engineers, etc.
  26. Helped many team members, and no management was involved there. But when I needed help for hardware testing, the team was unable to help, and management asked to get the hardware during COVID.
  27. Even if an engineer drives from end to end, sometimes there is a need for a manager/leader to pitch in. Because there is a difference in replies based on the role in Dell.
