Pros

Good office and place to work.

Yearly bonus (will be in March) will be given, and a hike will be in October (cycle is for the previous year Jan-Dec).

Good canteen and in-house doctor facilities.

Cons

HR:

  1. Compensation: Requesting to offer experienced employees (3-7 years) on par with freshers from IIT/NIT.
  2. In offer and appraisal letters, mention complete CTC. Currently, no retirals are mentioned.
  3. Request to mention hike duration and month, as there is no hike during probation.

Leadership and Management:

  1. Many trainings are gathered which are needed for new teams, but only 2 or 3 are scheduled. This will make engineers learn on their own, taking time for fixing issues and project delivery.
  2. Improper planning and quick estimations of tasks, which are not actual, leads to engineers spending personal time studying for the project. The management also listens to the perspectives of a few team members who are not SMEs for the issues faced, and then decides on estimations.
  3. Even after updating the status to the leader, scrum leader, and management via email, management still comes to the floor and asks for status. This leads to micromanagement and makes employees uncomfortable.
  4. Suspecting employees will leave, management makes them stressed and keeps assigning tasks and asking for status.
  5. Engineers are expected not to take many leaves.
  6. Some technical documents are created without any audience, which is not helpful.
  7. Management/Leadership feels unhappy if something is committed and not done, even when realistic reasons exist.
  8. The company follows many strategies to improve the business and company, but there is no strategy (yearly) to improve employee satisfaction, such as WFH, food/transport allowances, company stocks, etc. Please help to think from an employee's perspective and help to improve them.
  9. No onsite trainings or work are provided, even when the project needs them. Engineers are asked to coordinate and work with the Austin/Taiwan team, which takes more time than sending an engineer onsite.
  10. Request to improve the UEFI skills of leaders to provide guidance properly. A non-UEFI skilled leader was hired to lead the Core BIOS team, which has not been fruitful.
  11. There is no SME for BIOS skills, and engineers have to struggle to find and fix issues. However, it is not possible all the time.
  12. The team is requested to provide and attend CSR functions in Dell, but due to work, it is not always possible.
  13. Every task is always considered a priority, even if it is not that much of a priority.
  14. Delays occur in approving awards.
  15. The BIOS team's caliber is compared with OS application teams, which is not correct. Sometimes, it takes 3 months to complete one issue as it deals with so many hardware components and drivers. Also, requesting to compare with other sustenance teams for hikes/appraisals.
  16. There is a strategic plan to not give a hike in the first year after joining, even though probation is completed during October.
  17. Management does not think about health during COVID and asks engineers to take hardware for projects/issues, which may cause damage to the employee and their family.
  18. Even if engineers work extra hours, their salary/hike is less.
  19. No promotions have been given to team members in the past 2 years, even when performing above goals.
  20. There is no cab/meals facility, and no cab for late nights.
  21. No additional compensation is given for additional hours worked, and awards are always less than 2000-5000 rupees. Please help to improve on this.
  22. Sometimes it feels like management/leadership or other teams offload their work with end-to-end ownership to others, which is not correct.
  23. Engineers are told to think of innovative ideas, and leaders file patents independently, which is not good for being a team player.
  24. Complete Agile (Scrum) cannot be applied for BIOS projects; please help simplify the process.
  25. There are some pros and cons in patent mining. Please help to resolve the cons, such as submitting multiple solutions for the same problems reported by engineers, etc.
  26. Many team members were helped, with no management involvement. But when help was needed for hardware testing, the team was unable to assist, and management asked to get the hardware during COVID.
  27. Even when an engineer drives end-to-end, sometimes there is a need for a manager/leader to pitch in because there is a difference in reply based on the role in Dell. This has not happened in the team.
Advice to Management

The Cons section above has all the details. I request management to address those, as employees should not be affected while working for Dell.
