Pros: Very well paid position.

Cons: You are pressured to work overtime, and your work is never enough. It's a very toxic work environment.

Pros: From a technical perspective, the team is full of all-stars and continues to hire massive talent. It's what got me into the door at Discord, but what is going to keep me here is the attention, care, and focus towards building an organization centered around people. Leadership invests heavily in mental health, leads with empathy, and empowers everyone to reach a little bit out of their comfort zone, grow, and get it done. There's no ceiling on making an impact at the company, regardless of level.

Cons: Just like any other successful startup of our size, every day we are stepping into new territory. In these times, we are all iterating and improving how we communicate, organize, and grow an effective organization. During this process, things are very dynamic, which can be hard for some people. At Discord, you are expected to influence change and have a voice in the conversation. This may not be the right environment for some.

Pros: Amazing product that we get to use every day. We get so much love and feedback from users; it's easy to see the impact your work has. Huge user base and platform managed by a small and nimble company. Lots of focus on autonomy and a high bar for hiring. I get to work with some of the best engineers I've ever met. The company culture is great. Hack week is super fun. And the office is the best, RIP. Can't wait until we're able to go back to work there.

Cons: Things move quickly and there is often a lot of ambiguity, and that can be tough for some people. As we've grown, it has become harder to feel like a small and mighty company, and hard to know what others are working on. This has become much more difficult with COVID and all of us working from home, though I do think we've adapted really well to the switch.
