Applied for a job I was well qualified for.
3-4 weeks later, I received a call from the recruiter.
They seemed interested and set up the first 30-minute tech interview.
It went well, and they informed me as such, wanting to continue.
Contact then stopped completely for a week.
I sent multiple emails following up.
Finally, I heard back a week later (2 weeks after getting positive feedback) and they wanted to move forward.
Come to find out, they just wanted to promote internally, and the position I applied for was closed, but they had another one they wanted me for (the same position but a different opening number).
I then did the next 4-hour interview block with 3 manager interviews, all asking the exact same behavior/situation questions.
Had one tech interview where the interviewer just fired questions non-stop for an hour about React and Java, which I had plenty of experience to fall back on.
I felt I did pretty well.
To no one's surprise, I didn't hear back from the recruiter at all afterwards.
I was done trying to work with the recruiter at this point, and I didn't bother to follow up since I was juggling between 2 other offers that were about 20% higher than this position shows on Glassdoor.
I still would have considered the job due to benefits, but that was never an option.
