Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

Technical phone screen followed by an onsite interview with 5 rounds. Each round had 2 interviewers, with an additional interviewer joining remotely via video conference. The interview day also included lunch.

Each round included a mix of:

  • Coding
  • System design
  • Behavioral assessment
  • Diagnosing a production problem

There was significant trouble each round with setting up the video conferencing, which indicated a lack of preparation for the remote interviewer.

After receiving the offer, the recruiter applied very high pressure to accept quickly, presumably to avoid competing against other offers. They set a hard deadline.

When presented with a better competing offer, they were unwilling to increase their offer. Their reaction was unprofessional, attempting to guilt-trip and mislead. This included exaggerating the annual compensation by implying all 4 years of Long Term Incentive cash were received at once, rather than vesting over time. They also insinuated that the other company's offer was less than its actual value.

Questions

The behavioral interview involved the typical process, going over your past work and motivations.
