I've never posted an interview experience before, but as I continue to search for my next job, I've started to feel that I should also contribute, especially since I have benefitted from Glassdoor reviews as well. So, here it is: I just had my technical phone screen at DocuSign.
It was not a good experience at all. The problem was related to string manipulation, not a typical LeetCode problem, but not hard either. I asked clarifying questions about the parameters. Before even starting the solution, the interviewer asked me to think bigger, about where it could be used. Totally understandable. So, I gave him examples, maybe not the ones he was looking for.
After that, he started to talk in a degrading way, saying things like, "You don't know this, and you are applying for a lead role." Then he asked what the specs of the function would look like, which is again a valid question. I told him the specs, but he kept talking, saying I wasn't understanding and questioning why I had applied for a lead role. After some time, he stated the same specs that I had mentioned earlier.
Perhaps I wasn't able to communicate effectively, but that still doesn't give him the right to bring down my confidence. Aren't interviewers supposed to work with you? I've been on the other side of the table multiple times and never once did I think to show the interviewee that I was superior to them, which is what I felt this interviewer was trying to do.
Anyway, after that, I politely told him that I don't think the interview was going in the direction either of us wanted it to, and that I didn't want to waste his or my time. I then ended the interview early.
Question about string manipulation.
Cannot disclose due to NDA.
Don't bother applying here.
