My interview process was unconventional because I was hired as a contract-to-hire.
I had applied for the position directly before the contract-to-hire, but I was declined.
When I applied directly, the interview process involved a series of phone interviews and a single four-hour on-site interview. I felt I had performed very well during the on-site interview. However, I later learned that the person who asked me the fewest questions (and to whom I believed I provided the best answers) decided against hiring me. This was due to the fact that I knew someone else at the company with whom they disagreed. I had no idea they had a disagreement at the time.
The most difficult question was a technical one, which I fumbled the answer for. I was asked to provide the pseudocode for a binary search algorithm.
It had been some time since I had actually used the algorithm, but I did end up providing a version of it that I derived on my own after about 10 minutes of talking through the problem.
