Great job interviewing people with 10+ years of experience, and not treating me like a college student.

The interview questions properly tested a mix of LeetCode-like questions and questions that tested experience.

The interview didn't span weeks and weeks. It had a very reasonable timeframe from interview to offer. 10/10

A mix of your ordinary algorithm questions, like sorting, etc. Very typical of an interview.

Then some "break it" questions: What is wrong with this? Create something with this issue. Questions that only experienced developers can answer.

Some good things to experience, some annoying bits, especially for a contractor

Senior Java Software Engineer • Former Employee

Pros: Very reasonable delivery expectations. It's nice seeing from the inside such a major e-commerce website. Automatic deployments (on PR merge) are great; everyone feels very responsible for not breaking anything. There wasn't even a QA team. I never had to work on a weekend or anything to fix something we broke.

Cons: Contractors have very strict learning and growing opportunities (you are definitely seen as a temporary employee). You have to learn the "eBay way" of doing stuff due to the architecture they build, which is not so great. Lots of code duplication and unclear layers, and a lack of application of SOLID principles.

Pros: Excellent company to work for. Great leadership. Loved my boss. They do a great job of annual planning and are extremely invested in the employees.

Cons: Lots of layers sometimes makes it difficult to get things done, but that’s to be expected in a company the size of eBay. Burnout can be a real thing in some roles.
