Process
Submitted the application online. It asked why I was interested in eBay, stating this is a very important question.
Received an OA on CodeSignal with four coding problems: two very easy and two medium.
Never received any updates after finishing it. It's disappointing.

Pros: Teammates are good for what I do.
Cons: Low stock compensation is given.

eBay Search is the most political and the worst group I have ever worked in during my career
Software Engineer • Current Employee
San Jose, California, United States
May 31, 2013
Pros: Competitive salary, MacBook. Stock is doing fine.
Cons: eBay search is run in a very disorganized fashion. They are developing a new search engine which only a few folks are allowed to touch. The rest of the engineers are not utilized properly, and no one cares for the end product. Most engineers have left the group, and many are in the process of leaving the group. Managers lack technical expertise and are busy playing politics and using one against another. This was not the case earlier. I would seriously advise you not to join the search group, as this will be a total waste of time.

Maybe we can cram a few more desks in here somewhere
Software Engineer • Former Employee
Draper, Utah, United States

Pros: My manager and (most of my) colleagues were professionals, and it was a pleasure to work with them.
Great benefits.
Good work-life balance. My manager was fine with me working from 6-8 at home and then from 9-4 at the office.
Cons: The physical environment was awful for software development.
The salary was not competitive, even when compared to those performing similar work in the company.
I received decent performance bonuses; however, I object to their distribution "on a curve", where managers essentially have to duke it out so their reports can get decent bonuses. This ingrains a belief that you can't have a team where multiple people are performing at "exceeds expectations"—which isn't true.
