Solutions Architect Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

I was contacted by an eBay recruiter for a position. The recruiter was very forceful in wanting me to apply, even though I expressed reservations about the position. A video call was set up, and it went downhill from there.

  • I was booked for 1 hour but was expected to stay on the call, with a 30-minute break, for an additional 30 minutes. If they wanted me to book 2 hours, they should have set the invite for 2 hours and not 1.
  • I am a senior-level manager, so when I am on a video call with two interviewers, I expect everyone's camera to be turned on and focused on the interview. This was not the case.
  • I had expressed reservations about the position, so why were two junior/mid-level engineers grilling me about what cool websites I follow to stay on top of tech news?
  • I had made it clear that I would not relocate, so why was I being asked if I would relocate?

Questions

I was grilled on tech questions when I had made it very clear that I was not a coder.
