I loved working for Elastic. I was working with intelligent, friendly, and caring people. The benefits were great. The culture seemed amazing.
In November 2022, after 2.5 years of working for Elastic, I received an email in the middle of my workday, telling me that there'd been a layoff, and this was my last day.
It felt like the world crumbled around me. Nobody could tell me why this happened. The company just presented their financial results about a week ago, and they were doing well.
I also never learned why I was one of the "chosen". After all the talk about being different and caring deeply for their employees, the company turned around and showed their real face. It wasn't pretty.
Don't just say you care. Do it.
