Pros

During my time at EA, the company had many ups and downs. Some good bullet points while working on a live service game with them would be:

  • Brilliant in-studio management.
  • Plenty of employee benefits.
  • Relaxed working environment.
  • Great on-site facilities, for example, we had an on-site gym that any employee could use for free.
  • Arranged company mini-bus to get employees to work who couldn't drive.
  • The testing plans ran like clockwork and were easy to digest.
  • Employee sick pay and bereavement leave.
Cons

There were also many things to dislike at the company, especially as time on contracts was coming close to end dates.

  • Lack of clarity on contract renewals, well the end date was weeks away.
  • Virtually zero upper management interaction; everything was whispers passed to our line managers.
  • Long periods of downtime.
  • Lack of company progression for people wanting to become permanent employees.
  • QA felt very isolated at EA from the rest of the company.
  • Mass layoffs during my time there also led to overall group morale being exceedingly low, wondering if our studio would be next (it was).
