Playing Games!
Japanese bosses seem devoid of emotion, but they actually fight for your welfare (i.e., better overtime or holiday pay).
Playing games – no, seriously. Playing for leisure is all fun and games, but when your job is to test extremely buggy alpha and beta versions with the difficulty set at "you're-gonna-die-every-five-minutes," it's not surprising to hear cries of rage from members of the QA team. My colleague once threw an Xbox controller at the wall after failing an impossible race when testing a title in the Need for Speed series.
Some communication and feedback between programmers, designers, and the QA team would be great. Back then, the QA team seemed cut off from everyone else, and I strongly believe that communication would have benefited the quality of the titles and the company culture as a whole.
I had a few interviews on Zoom about the position, my background, and my knowledge of the company. The whole process took from August, when I first applied through LinkedIn, to November, when I had the job offer.
Pleasant and simple interview to check that you know the company and a bit about the work in question that the interview is about. Some more specific questions on how to solve problems that may arise.
Very quick, easy, and well communicated. The process took less than a week. Everyone was friendly. It was almost entirely through e-mail, except for the Zoom interview. I felt as though communication was always open despite this.
