Pros: Creative and driven colleagues. Supportive management. Amazing community of healthcare organizations to work with. Wealth of opportunities both internal and external. Ability to learn all aspects of the healthcare field. Constantly challenged and growing. Great work facilities that inspire towards creativity. Numerous learning opportunities at the Epic Learning Center. Company gives responsibility to its employees. Good benefits and compensation.

Cons: Finding the right co-existence between your job and hobbies can be challenging for someone out of college. Epic is a fast-paced working environment with many opportunities. Coming into that kind of growth environment can be overwhelming, so prepare yourself. Say "yes" to the opportunities that interest you the most and say "no" to the ones that don't. Ultimately, Epic gives you these opportunities because they trust you to: 1. Accomplish the task. 2. Say no if you aren't passionate about the task or don't have time for it.

Pros: Epic has good benefits (particularly their health insurance plans), excellent work-life balance, and is an opportunity to work on software that makes a real difference. Before this job, I worked at a bank in NYC. It was depressing to just be working for the sake of making the company more money instead of creating something. Additionally, I had to deal with corporate bureaucracy and dressing up every day. Now I wear jeans and a t-shirt, I ride my bike to work, and I can email anyone directly, regardless of their role and tenure. I also love the food on campus – I usually pay $3 for a plate of delicious homemade food. Having your own office is also awesome. I have an office mate (they ask if you prefer a window + office mate or a private internal office). Sorry if this is a bit rambly; there are lots of pros to working here. From talking to friends outside of Epic, this is about as good as you can get with a 9-5 type job.

Cons: The main con the people seem to run into is the location. I'm lucky in that my family is in Madison, so it's not an issue for me. I'm also not crazy about logging my time, considering I'm not customer-facing, it seems excessive.

Pros: Epic offers developers a high salary for the area. Your coworkers at Epic are smart and are genuinely easy to work with. The campus is pleasant, with individual/shared offices instead of an open office.

Cons: As a developer, Epic wouldn't be a first-tier place to work. Traditional software companies offer more interesting problems and come with the additional perk of valuing their employees. Here are some examples of benefits where Epic lags behind: * Only 2 weeks paid maternity leave * 10 paid days off for the first 2 years, moving to 15 paid days off afterward (most companies offer 4 weeks) * Poor vesting schedule One of the main problems currently at Epic is its disappointing COVID-19 response. Management insists on bringing employees back while cases in Wisconsin are still high. Many employees do not feel comfortable returning to campus. It's difficult to understand why an employer would choose to make their employees return to campus and jeopardize employees' peace of mind and potentially their physical health, when remote work is possible.
