Pros: Ability to mold your own career

Pros: Important work. I feel like I make healthcare better every day. Madison is as good a place for people fresh from college as it is for those raising kids. It’s also super affordable. My coworkers are amazing, hard-working, and responsible. My direct and middle managers are wonderful and understanding. Food is super. Campus is beautiful.

Cons: Upper management continues to disappoint me. They promote a culture of feedback, which works incredibly well on the ground level. But when decisions are made at the top, there’s very little transparency and ability to change their minds. I worry, on a daily basis, that my peers in QA’s opinions and experiences are not heard or considered company-wide. It is unbelievably stressful to distrust upper management and wonder what spastic move they will make next.

Cons: 1. Company doesn’t trust employees Micromanagement is at its extreme at Epic. There is little space for autonomy. 2. Paid Time Off is a joke 10 days for the first 2 years and 15 for 3 years & up. This is lower than the minimum of most tech companies of the same size. 3. Team Leads are inexperienced in people management Epic distrusts people management professionals because the leadership never had any people management professionals. Many TLs, especially those junior ones, are extremely good at demoralizing team members in astonishingly creative ways. 4. Higher Management people live in their dreams Judy is the captain-daydreaming of the company. She makes erratic decisions based on her overconfidence, ignorance, and arrogance. Judy and her team treat Epic as a school and employees as students that cannot make their own choices. 5. Technology at Epic is at best outdated and not connected to the rest of the world Seriously, if you stay too long at Epic, you will get stuck at Epic because your expertise will not be needed in the market. 6. Epic thinks its culture is supreme and will do whatever is hideous to maintain it COVID response, etc.
