Software Developer Intern Interview Experience - Madison, Wisconsin

May 5, 2026

Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

I applied through college or university.

Very long, a four-hour interview with most of it going over things you can find online and a very bloated dive into the software itself, with the interview sections being unnecessarily long.

Epic Systems Work Experiences

Good Pay, Fun Perks

Software Developer Intern • Current Employee

Madison, Wisconsin, United States

August 14, 2015

Pros: The pay is good, and Madison is a cheap, cheap place to live. I could pretty easily find $2 craft drafts at bars, and the beer selection is great here. The work environment itself is good, and the hours aren't bad at all. Expect to work like 8:00 - 4:30, with maybe a late day or two at the end to prep for your presentation.

Cons: You can only find cons with the internship if you compare it to companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. Those companies pay more and have better programming. Not to say Epic's programming was bad; we were taken to Six Flags for a day and went paintballing another, on top of other things. It's just that it could be better, like having Maroon 5 play a concert just for you.

Great company, interesting culture

Software Developer Intern • Former Employee

Madison, Wisconsin, United States

October 14, 2014

Pros: Good culture, very into what they are doing and interesting themes to buildings. This helps to keep the company together. Cool projects, especially for interns. They want you to enjoy what they're doing. Hard-working people.

Cons: The location is not super great. Madison is kind of a boring place with little to do. There was no growth, and it seemed like it was hard to get higher up in the company. People had been there for 5 years or more with no promotion.
